BSPD still following leads on shooting
Emily Jarrett, Journal Staff
The Blue Springs Police Department has not yet made any arrests following the shooting of a 21-year-old Blue Springs man last week.
According to Det. Jeremy Dickstein, police brought in a suspect, who may have been in a car involved in the shooting, in for questioning.
“He was released without charge,” Dickstein confirmed.
According to reports, in the afternoon of Jan. 20, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call on a report of a shooting that had just occurred on the 2900 block of S. E. Third Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the street after being shot twice in his abdomen.
Reports indicate the shooting took place after a verbal argument between the victim and several individuals in a red passenger vehicle that was parked on the street in front of a residence.
At some point during the argument, the victim was shot multiple times from a suspect inside the vehicle. According to police, the make and model of the vehicle are still unknown at this time.
Dickstein said the victim, who underwent surgery and was in the intensive care unit, was released from the hospital this week.
“Right now, we’re examining evidence at the lab and because of turnaround time, it could take several months,” Dickstein said. “But we’re confident someone will be charged.”
Officers are still investigating the shooting and following up on leads to identify the suspects. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Dickstein at 816-228-0261 or 816-214-7970, Det. Sgt. Joe Fanara at 816-228-0153 or Blue Springs Police Department dispatch at 816-228-0150.
