Two Blue Springs teenagers were arrested after a burglary stand off with police Monday, according to the Blue Springs Police Department.

According to reports, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Northwest Windsor Place on a call of a residential burglary in progress. The caller, a 12-year-old boy who was home sick from school, reported seeing the two teens in his neighbor’s backyard. He told officers he didn’t recognize the teens and knew they didn’t belong at the home.

Officers confirmed there were no signs of forced entry at the neighbor’s home but they heard movement and voices from inside the home. No one answered the door however, after repeated attempts made by the officers.

A short time later, the homeowner arrived at the residence and confirmed no one should be inside. Officers entered the home and found several firearms lying on the floor just inside the front door.

Based on the information from the witness and the discovery of the firearms, officers believed the unknown suspects could be armed, so they vacated the residence and set up a perimeter to contain the incident.

Around noon, members of the Blue Springs Police STAT Tactical Team arrested two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, when they voluntarily left the residence and surrendered to police without further incident.

Preliminary investigation by the Blue Springs Criminal Investigations Unit alleged both suspects were inside the residence and in the process of committing a burglary when they were interrupted by the officers.
