Missouri Senate backs broader ban on driver texting

The Missouri Senate has given initial approval to a measure making it illegal for motorists of all ages to text while driving.
Missouri already bars drivers 21 and younger from writing, sending or reading text messages while operating a vehicle.
Senators gave first-round approval Wednesday to legislation extending the prohibition to all drivers, regardless of age. It needs another Senate vote to go to the House.
The bill also provides for Missouri to issue just one license plate per motor vehicle, with some exceptions. Republican Sen. Matt Bartle, Lee’s Summit, said doing away with mandatory front and rear plates would save the state money.
