Robert R. Zion
Robert R. Zion, 66, Blue Springs, died March 4, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on July 30, 1943 in Independence, the son of the late Ralph J. Zion and Goldie M. (Graham) Masters. He was a 1961 graduate of William Chrisman High School. Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna Marie (Massey) on August 13, 1966. To this union, two very special children were born. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1964.
Bob retired from Burns & McDonell after more than 30 years as a senior designer. After retirement, he became an avid reader and talented painter. Bob was a member of St. John La Lande Catholic Church, where he was active in the church choir and with St. Vincent DePaul food pantry. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed going to the lake to fish, but most of all, Bob cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Howard E. Masters and several siblings.
Bob leaves behind his wife, Donna of the home; daughter, Christine Zion of the home; Matthew Zion and wife, Kristyn, Raymore; sister, Nita Hall and husband, Jerry, Cashiers, N.C.; brother, Donald Helverson and wife, Doris, Blue Springs; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Abigail, and Josephine Zion, Raymore.
A celebration of life service was March 8 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to either IBS Industries or to the St. John La Lande school library.
