Cause of Fourth of July fire unknown

An investigation is underway on the cause of a structure fire Sunday night at the 3000 block of Owens School Road in Blue Springs, according to the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.
According to Assistant Chief Eddie Saffell, investigators may not find the ultimate cause of the fire because there was extensive damage to the home.
“The way the owners described it, they saw smoke coming from the house and they thought it was coming from a room used primarily for making crafts,” Saffell said. “We do not believe fireworks were the cause or had anything to do with the fire.”
According to reports, around 9 p.m., July 4, the CJCFPD received a 9-1-1 call on a report of smoke coming from a residence. The four occupants of the home were safely outside at the time of the fire.
“There were no injuries reported,” Saffell said.
