Hollis N. Spainhour, 85, long-time resident of Lee’s Summit, died July 23, 2010 at St. Luke’s East-Lee’s Summit.

Hollis was born May 8, 1925 in Lone Jack, the son of Issac and Lula (Bernard) Spainhour. He served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army. Hollis worked for 42 years as a maintenance supervisor at Unity School of Christianity. He was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit. Hollis enjoyed reading, gardening and being outside. He truly loved being with his family and cherished every moment.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beulah of the home; son, Stacey Spainhour, Lee’s Summit; daughter, Sandra Patterson and husband, Mike, Lee’s Summit; sister, Opal Beard, Lone Jack; three grandchildren, Ashley Yockey, Ali Patterson, Adam Spainhour; and one great-granddaughter, Mikayla Yockey.

The family received friends July 27 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. A funeral service followed in the chapel. Burial was at Floral Hills East Cemetery.
