Blue Springs police officers were involved in a car chase in Blue Springs early this morning.

According to reports, around 6:30 a.m. Aug. 16, officers driving north on M-7 Highway noticed a Toyota Rav driving south. The driver, who is an Afghanistan national described as being approximately 30 years old, was driving “erratically.”

“Officers turned around to pull over the driver and he tried to drive away,” said Det. Troy Pharr, public information officer with the Blue Springs Police Department. “He was driving on M-7 between speeds of 40 and 70 mph.”

The driver eventually made his way to Adams Dairy Parkway near Shamrock Road, where he attempted to pass a pickup truck on the passenger side, Pharr said,

“The truck, seeing that the Toyota was being chased by police cars, immediately slowed down in an attempt to let the police cars pass,” Pharr said. “When the Toyota tried to get back into the left lane, he clipped the truck’s bumper and it sent his car into a rollover.”

The Afghanistan national was transported to a local hospital for injuries.

Pharr said at this time he did not know if the driver had been drinking. Charges are pending.
