George Thomas Harris, 74, life-time resident of Kansas City, died Aug. 18, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital.

George was born March 4, 1936 in Kansas City, the son of Louis and Vinita (Thomas) Harris. George served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1959 and was very proud of his country and Kansas City. He was united in marriage to Julia Ann (Daniels) Feb. 8, 1980.

George owned and operated Hoovers Audio Visual in Kansas City from 1986 until his retirement in 2001. He was very active in the community and was a longterm member of the Kansas City Visitor Convention Association where he served as chairman from 1999-2001.

He was also a member of the Meeting Planners International and the Hotel Motel Association of Greater Kansas City, where George was honored with the “Supplier of the Year” March 22, 1990 and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” Feb. 9, 2001. In his spare time, George loved to watch the Royals and Chiefs, golf and spend time with the numerous friends he gained through all his associations.

George was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffery Harris.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Julie Harris of the home; sons, Timothy Harris and wife, Brigid, Orlando, Fla., Thomas Harris and David Harris, both, Kansas City; daughter, Staci Perrin and husband, John, Lee’s Summit; sister, Joanne Sackett and husband, Dennis, Shawnee, Kan.; brother, Jerry Harris, San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Jean Jackson and husband, Greg, Ashdown, Ark.; and one grandson, Quinton Perrin.

Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 22 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. James Taranto as celebrant. The family received friends at the church prior to the mass.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
