Basic Belly Dance

Belly dancing, often claimed as the oldest form of dance, was originally a dance performed by and for women. It is a natural movement for a woman’s bone and muscle structure centered around a woman’s core area instead of the hands and feet, making movement easier. An excellent form of exercise, the graceful fluid motions help improve flexibility and balance while strengthening and toning stomach muscles. Classes are at Vesper Hall, 400 N.W. Vesper St., Blue Springs.

This six-week class from 8 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 1-Oct. 6, is for beginners who are learning the moves for the first time and also for advancing students who wish to continue to exercise and/or perfect the basic belly dance moves.

Basic Belly Dance Technique

From glitzy cabaret to earthy tribal, belly dance has evolved into an exciting and innovative dance art. This class will focus on the technical break down and refinement of belly dance moves as well as teach students the basics of improvisation and choreography. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a performing artist, this class will help you go beyond the basics. It is also suitable for beginners who wish to focus primarily on the artistic side of belly dance.

These six-week classes from are from 5 to 6 p.m., Fridays, Sept. 3-Oct. 8, at Vesper Hall, 400 N.W. Vesper St., Blue Springs.

Each team, consisting of two players, is guaranteed 12 matches.
